Mauritius Island
Walking through the busy markets and engaging with locals allowed me to witness first hand the intricate patterns and colour combinations of Mauritius. I was particularly drawn to the rich culture in their textiles, temples and food. The island's natural scenery, from the bright turquoise waters to the lush ebony forests fueled my creativity. I returned to the studio with a fresh perspective, incorporating the bold hues and cultural motifs I had discovered into my designs.
Captivated by Colour
This island may be best known for its beach resorts, but it is a cultural melting pot of vibrant colours. I was surprised at every turn by how much inspiration can come from such a small place. From the beach I worked my way in – to small towns connected through woody mountain passes and the busy markets in the capital’s Asian quarter.
Mauritius's temples are painted in an array of colours. The temples, which reflect Hindu and Chinese influences, are decorated with ornate details of their deities. Stunning hues of yellow, purple, red, blue, and green form tiers like a birthday cake celebrating the island’s rich and unique cultural heritage.
Beach Paradise
The beaches of Mauritius are a true paradise of colours and bliss. From the crystal-clear turquoise waters to the powdery white sands and lush green vegetation that surrounds them. Imagine the soft pastel hues of a sleepy morning, woken up by the tap-tap of a fishing boat in the low tide. Or the sun setting ablaze over a lilac horizon. This is what one dreams of when longing for tranquillity and relaxation. The aquamarine flashes of a ripple awaken a calm energy and revives a fresh breath in lungs. Whether you are lounging on the beach or swimming in the warm waters, the colours and textures of the Mauritian beaches will leave you in awe.
