A walk in the park

Tuesday was a public holiday here in France and seeing as we were blessed with a partly sunny sky, all of Paris headed to the nearest park for some sun.

It also happened to be the anniversary of when Anne, who invited me to stay here in Paris for the week, came to Cape Town where we met. So it was all the more reason to celebrate with a day out.

At the Tuileries gardens, right in front of the Musée du Louvre, we sat with our pastries and took in the view as people were walking by.

On this holiday people buy these flowers for loved ones and we saw them on every corner..

We then walked along the Seine river to browse the vintage book shops and listened to street performers. This is where you will find handdrawn biology textbooks and original first editions from many years ago. 

Gardens of Luxembourg Chateau

​The gardens of Luxembourg Chateau (not the same Luxembourg from a previous post, but still in Paris), is the perfect place for a whole day of activities. I saw tennis courts, children riding ponies, people playing basketball, statues, topiary trees, fountains, and best of all, a large pond for which families can rent toy boats to play with. It was fun to see how excited the little ones get as they run from one side to the next to follow the boats.

At night Anne's boyfriend, François, made us a Marseille speciality drink, Pastis, a liquorice alcoholic drink mixed with water. He says it is best to drink it while playing petanque in the park. I hope he gets to show us this game before we leave.
