Foresty path to the future
My hosts, Anne and her boyfriend François, told me about a brand new contemporary art exhibit in the Boulogne Forest. The pieces were a great inspiration in the use of colour and cinematography that I want to add to my style of work in future.
Heading there felt like walking through the medieval wooded paths seen in films of castles and villages.
The woods cleared and we came to the sleek, metallic sails of the Louis Vuitton Foundation. The sails and wooden beams reference the design of a boat, which is apparently one of the symbols of Paris, hidden everwhere in the city.
The current exhibition features work by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. This art pop blend of various mediums, including graffiti, anime video, sculpture and printed design, was a psychedelic trip for my creativity.
The other artists' work were among others, some amazing 3D cinematography of plants moving at night with great use of lighting to create mood.
After that we headed back to the city centre and stopped at a cute little family creperie, La Marina. Then a long walk down the Champs Elysées with many café stops to rest our feet. My favorite was Le Ponthieu, just off the main road which is obviously packed with tourists.
I frequently reference marble statues and paintings in my portrait photography. At the end of the avenue we came to Le Petit Palais, housing a collection of impressionist art and other classical paintings.
The building itself is an eclectic mix of art nouveau and neoromanesque styles. If not for the free entry, at least go to marvel at the architecture.
