Inspired by the world
When I write my blog posts, I see them as a pin board of ideas that inspire me from around the world, and the result they have in my finished projects. In this post, I connect the art that resonated with me from across the world, and which continue to inspire my work.
Galleries throughout the world tend to cover such a large variety of styles and artists that it can get a bit overwhelming. That’s why I love thematic exhibitions that are curated with a single purpose. Following this thread in different genres and eras is exactly how designers gather ideas from unexpected sources.
A great example of this was a retrospective on art deco and its inspirations from history to create it as we know it today. The XYZ gallery in Vienna, Austria, showed how everything from angular Egyptian hieroglyphs to golden Chinese murals had an impact into the style. Nothing in the world ever happens in a silo, so it is fascinating to trace back the road twisted through time and how it evolved.
This also applies to architecture, street art, or simply objects found in everyday life. Inspiration can come from anywhere, and travel allows you to pause, and look at the world with new eyes.
Art is never an imitation, but rather a reinterpretation of many ideas into one.
