A worthy cause

On 18 July, for the second year running, the CWDI and their sponsors arranged a Mandela Day event to help small scale entrepreneurs and non-profit organisations.

The day’s events were hosted at in Cape Town and Johannesburg with the aim of getting 67 designers to create a logo each for 67 startups in one day.

The Design Process

Designers were given a brief introduction and then met their clients for a briefing and collaboration. Then, while they head off to management mentoring workshops, the designers start drawing and researching on their logos. Around mid day the clients give feedback on the progress, and at 2pm the logos were presented to all the attendees.

My client

I was partnered up with PREFABulous Solutions, a company that builds homes and office spaces at a far lower cost than conventional constructions. They use the concept of a container and build these structures off-site and deliver fully assembled. This is great news for Africa, where we have a shortage of low cost housing of a high enough standard for health and safety.

The logo concept

After a brainstorming with the client, we realised the essence of their message. The containers that they build are a black canvas which can be built for many uses. With this in mind, I came up with the outline shape of a open box, and from the logo a catchphrase came into being: “More than just a box”.

The words “PREFAB” are highlighted in orange and placed inside the box, with the end of fab-”ulous” being outside the box.

Thank you for that amazing logo , I really appreciate all your efforts and creative input. I really had fun working with you. May you be blessed in all you set out to do. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
